The Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Hon. Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has highlighted the urgent need for affordable food services within large corporate and institutional premises across the country.
Speaking in Parliament, she noted that workers in hospitals, banks, ministries, and major private-sector establishments often struggle to access reasonably priced meals during working hours.
Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings emphasized that including well-planned, affordable food services in institutional designs can reduce pressure on both vendors and workers, preventing the proliferation of unauthorized food sales within and around premises.
She proposed that relevant regulatory authorities, including the Ministry of Works and Housing, the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies, develop guidelines that encourage large institutions and public facilities to incorporate cafeterias or food courts as part of planning approvals for major developments.
According to the MP, such measures would not only improve workers’ welfare but also support orderly urban planning and enhance service delivery in workplaces.
