New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Aspirant, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has called for transparency and due process following the National Steering Committee’s decision to annul constituency executive elections in Bantama, Afigya Sekyere East and Adansi Asokwa.
In a prepared radio response, Chairman Wontumi’s team stressed that he has the utmost respect for the NPP Constitution, the National Council, the National Steering Committee and all duly constituted organs of the party. The statement emphasized that he has never encouraged indiscipline and remains committed to resolving all internal party matters through the constitutional structures of the NPP.
However, the statement raised several questions regarding the basis for the annulment of the elections.
The team asked Acting National Chairman Danquah Buttey Smith to disclose the specific findings that informed the National Steering Committee’s decision. It also questioned whether any formal investigation was conducted, who carried it out, whether witnesses and the Ashanti Regional Steering Committee were heard, and whether Chairman Wontumi or any affected parties were given an opportunity to respond before the decision was taken.
According to the statement, the camp also wants clarity on whether the decision was based on a formal investigative report, verified evidence, reports from the National Representative, the Electoral Committee, police reports, or merely allegations circulating on social media and other media platforms.
Additionally, Chairman Wontumi’s camp requested that any investigative report relied upon by the Steering Committee be made available to the affected parties and asked the party leadership to specify the exact provisions of the NPP Constitution and the 2026 Election Regulations that were allegedly breached in each of the three constituencies.
The statement noted that while the party’s official announcement cited “flagrant disregard of Party directives, the Rules and Regulations governing the 2026 Constituency Executive Elections and, where applicable, subsisting court orders,” it did not disclose the factual findings or evidence supporting those conclusions.
On media discussions surrounding the issue, the statement argued that internal disciplinary and constitutional matters should primarily be handled through the party’s official constitutional processes rather than being litigated in the media.
“If there is an official report, let members see it. If there are findings, let the affected persons receive them. If there are allegations, they deserve an opportunity to respond. That is what natural justice requires,” the statement said.
Responding to suggestions that the National Steering Committee had already made its decision, the camp maintained that it does not dispute the committee’s authority. Rather, it argued that the central issue is whether the committee exercised its powers based on due process, evidence and in accordance with the NPP Constitution.
The statement further stressed that the matter should not be reduced to personalities but should instead focus on constitutional fairness and transparency.
It concluded by reaffirming Chairman Wontumi’s loyalty to the New Patriotic Party and his respect for its leadership while insisting that transparency strengthens, rather than weakens, party unity.
“We remain loyal members of the New Patriotic Party. We respect every lawful decision of the party, but respect for authority does not prevent us from asking for transparency. The Constitution of our party exists to protect both the institution and its members. If there are findings, let them be produced. If there is evidence, let it be disclosed. If there is a report, let the affected parties receive it. That is how justice is done, and that is how unity is preserved.
