The Ghana Armed Forces Military Police have arrested a soldier identified as Williams Mensah after a viral video captured him physically assaulting a pharmacy attendant and a female customer at a drug store located within Burma Camp, Accra.
In the disturbing footage, Mensah — dressed in civilian clothing — is seen angrily confronting the pharmacy staff after demanding a refund of about GH¢65 for medication he had reportedly opened. When the attendant explained that the pharmacy could not accept returns on opened drugs, the situation quickly escalated into violence.
The video, which has since gone viral on social media, shows Mensah slapping a female customer and punching a male staff member while others in the pharmacy tried to intervene.
Public outrage grew rapidly after the footage spread online, with many Ghanaians calling for immediate disciplinary action. In response, the Ghana Armed Forces confirmed that the suspect had been identified and taken into custody by the Military Police to assist with investigations.
According to sources, the military has assured the public that due process will be followed and that such acts of indiscipline will not be tolerated within the service.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident, and the victimized pharmacy staff are said to be receiving support following the assault.
