President John Dramani Mahama has cut sod for the construction of the Airport Garden City project, a major mixed-use development being undertaken by Sentuo Group at Airport City in Accra.

The project, which is estimated to cost about US$1.3 billion, is expected to transform the Airport City landscape while creating significant economic opportunities and more than 3,000 jobs for Ghanaians.

The development is expected to feature modern commercial and lifestyle facilities, further strengthening Airport City’s position as one of Ghana’s major business and investment hubs. It is also expected to support activities in areas including business, hospitality, retail and other services.

The project is being developed by Sentuo Group, a Chinese-owned investment group with a growing presence in Ghana. The group has investments across various sectors, including energy, petroleum and real estate.

Sentuo Group has become particularly prominent in Ghana through its investment in the Sentuo Oil Refinery, which has expanded its operations and strengthened the company’s footprint in the country’s downstream petroleum sector.

The company’s growing investment portfolio in Ghana is being led by Executive Chairman Xu Ningquan, who has played a key role in expanding the group’s operations and investments in the country.

Xu Ningquan has also become an influential figure within Ghana’s Chinese business community. His leadership of Sentuo Group has been associated with the company’s continued expansion and commitment to investing in Ghana.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony, government officials highlighted the importance of private-sector investment in creating jobs, expanding economic activity and supporting Ghana’s development agenda.

The project is expected to generate employment during the construction phase and create additional permanent and indirect jobs when the various facilities become operational.

The development is also expected to provide opportunities for Ghanaian contractors, suppliers, professionals and businesses to participate in its value chain.

President Mahama has consistently emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between government and the private sector to attract investment and create sustainable employment opportunities for the Ghanaian population.

The Airport Garden City project is therefore expected to contribute to the modernization of Accra’s commercial infrastructure while strengthening Ghana’s attractiveness as a destination for local and international investment.

With an anticipated investment of about US$1.3 billion and more than 3,000 jobs expected to be created, the project represents one of Sentuo Group’s major investments in Ghana’s real estate and commercial development sector.

The sod-cutting ceremony marks the formal commencement of the project, with stakeholders expecting the development to contribute significantly to economic activity and the transformation of the Airport City enclave.
