Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced plans to introduce a comprehensive digital database and welfare system aimed at ending what he described as “adidigya”—the neglect and exclusion of grassroots members within the party.
Dr. Bawumia made this known while interacting with party supporters ahead of the NPP presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026. He said the initiative is designed to formally recognise the sacrifices and contributions of party members, particularly those at the grassroots, who he noted often feel abandoned after elections.
According to him, his engagements across the country have revealed deep concerns among party faithful about lack of recognition, welfare support, and opportunities despite years of loyalty and hard work. He stressed that addressing these concerns is critical to rebuilding trust, unity, and strength within the party.
As part of his proposal, Dr. Bawumia said the NPP would establish a digital membership and welfare database that would capture the details, roles, and contributions of party members at all levels. This system, he explained, would allow the party to properly identify its members and respond effectively to their welfare needs.
He added that the database would be supported by monitoring units at the constituency level, working in coordination with a central body to ensure that issues raised by members are documented and resolved in a timely manner.
Dr. Bawumia also indicated that his leadership would promote greater inclusion in public appointments, proposing a decentralised approach that allows constituencies to recommend qualified and deserving party members for positions when the party is in government.
Additionally, he reiterated his commitment to introducing a constituency-based national budgeting system, which he believes would promote equitable development and ensure that no community or group is left behind.
The former Vice President described the proposed welfare system as a decisive step toward ending long-standing grievances within the NPP, noting that a modern, data-driven approach is necessary to strengthen grassroots participation and restore confidence in the party’s internal structures.
