President John Dramani Mahama has presented 40 new armoured vehicles to the Ghana Police Service as part of efforts to strengthen national security and enhance the operational capacity of the police.
The handover ceremony, which took place on Thursday, 4th December 2025 at the Police Headquarters in Accra, forms part of the government’s broader security modernization programme aimed at improving mobility, response time, and preparedness of security agencies across the country.
President Mahama noted that the armoured vehicles will support the Police Service in managing complex security operations, protecting citizens, and maintaining peace and public order. He emphasized the government’s commitment to equipping security services with modern tools to effectively confront emerging security threats.
The handover was received by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, along with senior police commanders. The IGP expressed appreciation to the President for the investment in security and policing infrastructure, assuring that the new fleet would be strategically deployed across the country to boost visibility, deterrence, and rapid response.
According to the Police Service, the new fleet will be deployed across strategic regional and national operations to strengthen public safety and security.
The handover marks another significant addition to the Police Service’s logistics, as Ghana continues to scale up security readiness and public-safety measures ahead of major national events and growing urban security demands.
