The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially launched its 2026 “NDC Month” celebration at its headquarters in Accra, unveiling a series of nationwide activities aimed at promoting political education, accountability, and national reflection.
Addressing the media, NDC General Secretary Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey announced that this year’s programme is themed “Strengthening State Institutions: Lessons from the June 4, 1979 Uprising.”
He explained that the month-long activities will focus on key values associated with the June 4 uprising, including accountability, discipline, integrity, social justice, and broader national development. According to him, the initiative also reflects the party’s commitment to strengthening state institutions to ensure effective governance and long-term national progress.
Mr. Kwetey added that the celebration forms part of the party’s “Reset Agenda,” which seeks to reinforce governance structures and deepen civic engagement across the country.
As part of the programme, the NDC announced several scheduled activities across the country. These include a public lecture on June 3 in the Banda Constituency, which will examine the impact of the June 4 uprising and issues of institutional governance.
On June 4, the party will hold a flag-raising ceremony, wreath-laying event, and durbar in the Bono Region to commemorate the historic uprising.
Other activities outlined include NDC Day on June 10, which will focus on the party’s ideology as well as youth and women participation in politics; Cadres Day on June 19 in Kumasi under the theme “Ensuring Transparent Governance: The Role of Cadres”; and Founder’s Day activities on June 22, which will include the naming of the party’s national headquarters after former President Jerry John Rawlings and the unveiling of his bust.
The NDC says the month-long programme is designed to promote civic engagement, political education, and national reflection among Ghanaians, while strengthening the party’s connection with its grassroots and the wider public.
