Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi and currently the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially declared his intention to contest for the party’s National Chairmanship.

In a declaration released today Wednesday February 4th 2026, Wontumi emphasized that his bid is driven not by personal ambition but by a desire to strengthen, unify, and rebuild the NPP. He noted that the party requires leadership that is steady, principled, and deeply connected to its grassroots.

“Our party has faced challenges and learned hard lessons along the way. At this critical moment, the NPP demands leadership that is committed to unity and prepared to make sacrifices for the good of all members,” Wontumi stated.

He stressed the importance of inclusive leadership, valuing every member—from elders to youth—and highlighted the need for vision, courage, and determination to navigate the party through challenging times.

“We are ready. We are organized. We are built for the battle ahead. Together, we will restore confidence, empower our grassroots, and position the NPP to win decisively in 2028,” he said.

The declaration concluded with a patriotic message: “God bless the New Patriotic Party. God bless our democracy. God bless our motherland, Ghana.”

Wontumi’s announcement sets the stage for what is expected to be a competitive race for the NPP’s top leadership, as he seeks to transition from his current role as Ashanti Regional Chairman to the national leadership of the party.
