Wontumi Campaign Condemns Personal Attacks in NPP Chairmanship Contest

by | May 18, 2026

The campaign team of Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has condemned what it describes as increasing personal attacks and smear campaigns emerging in the ongoing race for the party’s National Chairmanship position.

According to the campaign, recent discussions surrounding the internal contest have shifted away from issues of party unity, grassroots mobilisation, and rebuilding efforts ahead of the 2028 general elections, focusing instead on attacks targeted at personalities and private matters involving some aspirants.

Speaking on behalf of the campaign, members close to Chairman Wontumi stressed that the NPP’s internal elections should remain issue-based and centered on policies and strategies capable of strengthening the party after its 2024 electoral defeat. The team argued that insults, character assassination, and attempts to ridicule candidates would only create division within the party.

The development follows a series of public commentaries and exchanges on social media among party supporters and communicators regarding Chairman Wontumi’s ambition to contest for the National Chairman position. Some critics reportedly questioned his eligibility and ongoing legal matters, while others also attacked his style of leadership in the Ashanti Region.

However, the Wontumi campaign insists that internal democracy within the NPP must be conducted with respect and discipline, adding that all aspirants deserve fair treatment regardless of differing opinions.

The campaign further called on party supporters, communicators, and executives across the country to avoid inflammatory remarks and instead focus on the larger goal of reorganising the NPP and preparing the party for victory in the 2028 elections under the leadership of the party’s flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia.

Chairman Wontumi is among several figures expected to contest the NPP National Chairmanship race as internal conversations begin to intensify ahead of the party’s next national executive elections.
